How many flip tricks have skaters landed during WS qualifying comps so far?
๐โโ๏ธ 1.09 ยฑ 1.22 flip tricks per run (n = 199 runs) โถ 18.3% of the tricks in their run
๐โโ๏ธ 2.56 ยฑ 1.72 flip tricks per run (n = 230 runs) โถ 40.1% of the tricks in their run
So, is it as clear as, more flip tricks = higher run score? OR is there again a ๐ญ spot of flip tricks vs. other tricks? OR actually, does it completely depend on the individual skater? โคต
Let's look at the ๐โโ๏ธ ๐ฏ๐ต team: #5 and #6 in the world
๐น Kairi Netsuke and Ginwoo Onodera both flipped their board 4.1x per run (~58% to 63% of their run tricks)
๐น Yet, Kairi's average run scores are 25% more than Ginwoo's
(77 pts, 0.49 normalised VS. 62 pts, -0.26 normalised) ๐คฏ
The story seems a bit clearer for the ladies ๐โโ๏ธ: Chloe Covell averages 3.9 flip tricks per run - that's more than half of the tricks in her run! She also has the highest run scores on average.
๐ So while doing more flip tricks doesn't necessarily guarantee a higher score for the ๐โโ๏ธ...
๐ ... it does appear to be a good way for ๐โโ๏ธ to differentiate themselves
Will the girls be looking to flip their board more in Shanghai this week to improve their run scores?
